Principal's Reminders

November, 2009

  • Congratulations to Edison's newest National Board Certified Teachers Lynette Carlson and Lori Miller.
  • Edison will receive the H1N1 vaccination in the third group of TPS schools selected to participate in the program.  Edison MS is scheduled for January 29 and the HS date has not yet bee set.  In order for students to recevie the vaccine, parents will be required to complete and sign 2 permission slips.  Slips will be sent home in early January.  The H1N1 vaccinations are only for staff and students currently enrolled at Edison.
  • Cold weather is approaching!  Please make sure your students are dressed appropriately and picked up on time.  Remember that the office closes at 4:15 and there is no adult supervision for students not involved in scheduled activities.  Help us keep our students safe!
  • HS Basketball is getting ready to start.  JV games begin at 4:00, the same time school ends.  Be aware that on game days there will be quite a bit of congestion in the student/field house parking lot and plan accordingly.

October, 2009

  • MS parents  be on the look-out!  Report cards will be distributed on Tuesday, November 2, 2009.
  • We have kicked off the Edison Reads Millions campaign- ask your student what it's all about!
  • Time change!  Reminder that the clocks "fall back"on Nov. 1, 2009.  Last year with the time change we experienced problems with the master calendar on Sharp School and the times of events were off by one hour until the calendar was fixed.  Please be aware and be sure to check with the sponsoring organization to be sure the event times are correct after the time change.
  • Great job to Ms. Wallace and the student council for a very successful HS Homecoming week.  All the students worked very hard on the class floats and the parade/pep rally was a huge success.
  • Parents:  we need your help with attendance!  Please encourage your student to be on time, every class, every day.  We will begin to have hall sweeps in the HS the last week of October.  If students are in the hall without a pass they will be assigned detention.  All HS students have been informed during class forums earlier in the year and it will also be on the announcements.  We have way too many tardies in the HS - students can't learn if they aren't in class!
  • Don't forget to join the PTSA!  Meetings are the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm in the media center.
  • HS Homecoming on Friday, Oct. 23.
  • Parent Teacher Conferences on Oct. 20 and Oct. 22.  4:40-7:30 pm.
  • Reminder there will be classes on Oct. 14 and no classes on Oct. 19
  • PSAT on Wed. Oct. 14.
  • Parent Access to Power School is available!  Be sure to come in to the main office and pick up your access code information.  Reminder:  only one access code per student.

  • Thank you for you patience with the unanticipated construction.  Hopefully the work will be completed no later than Friday, September 18.
  • TPS policies with respect to athletic events have changed.  Expect a complete list of the changes in the next PTSA email update.  We will also get a link to our website as soon as possible.  The biggest changes are:
    • All HS students will be required to show a valid student ID to purchase tickets to TPS athletic events.
    • TPS School Board will be voting next week to raise ticket prices for HS football and HS basketball from $5 to $6.
    • MS students (and younger) attending HS athletic events must be accompanied by an adult.  They will not be admitted alone or with HS students.
  • Please make note of a possible change to the TPS calendar.  Final approval will be at the September 21 board meeting:
    • ITEMS LISTED BELOW SUBMITTED BY ASSISTANT TO THE SUPERINTENDENT FOR DISTRICT ACCOUNTABILITY, MRS. ROBERTA ELLIS G-12. Correct 2009-2010 Traditional School calendar approved on the January 5,2009, Agenda, item E-21, page 9 to change the Parent/Teacher Conferencedate scheduled for Wednesday, October 14, 2009, to Monday, October 19,2009. August, 2009
Welcome Back, Edison Eagles!  Here are some important items to get  the year off to a smooth start:

  • School start times have changed.  Edison (MS and HS) will follow the Tulsa Public School HS times with classes starting at 9:10a.m. and ending at 4:00 p.m.  The Edison bell schedule for 2009-2010 is on the website under About Us, new for 2009-2010.
  • There are new procedures for schedule pick up this year.  All students must have a parent accompany them to schedule pick up.  Parents will be required to verify their address and fill out required forms before student schedules will be released.  I understand this is a new procedure and may cause some inconvenience, but it is crucial for us to check that our student records are accurate, especially with all files having been transferred over the summer to the new student information system.  See the Schedule Pick Up link for more information.
  • All parents are encouraged to join the Edison PTSA and be an active participant in their student's education.  Representatives from the PTSA will be available at all schedule pick-up times to enable parents to join the organization.
  • Reminder:  if you drive your student to school, student drop-off and pick-up is at the back of the building on the loop road.  Please do NOT drop students off on 41st Street.
  • We are in the process of determining at what time we will be able to provide adult  morning supervision for students who arrive early to school.  We will inform parents as soon as possible when the building will be open for student access.
